a pop-up retrofit shop
an EV charge & rest hub
We apply building science to all kinds of spaces. While our core focus is on high-performance timber homes and workspaces, we also take on a range of other projects, from retrofits to repurposed structures, always applying the same technical rigour and building science principles that underpin everything we do.
Some projects may not use our full factory-manufactured panel system, but they still benefit from our deep understanding of moisture control, airtightness, breathability, and energy performance. For example, we’ve been working on a project based on a 40-foot high-cube shipping container. Rather than treating the steel box as a finished structure, we approach it differently: the metal shell is treated more like a rainscreen cladding, with continuous ventilation and drainage channels along its length. Internally, we insulate and line it using our breathable panel system, creating a much healthier and more comfortable space than typical conversions allow.
We’ve also developed a retrofit pop-up shop for Fabric CIC, turning an underused urban space into a vibrant, welcoming retail and community venue. As with all our projects, we focused on reducing embodied carbon, minimising waste, and creating a healthy internal environment, in this case by reusing materials, upgrading insulation, and improving air quality and comfort.
These “other buildings” may look different, but the thinking behind them is the same: careful detailing, sustainable materials, and a commitment to better buildings… whatever form they take.
